How many people here have done uoa`s on their cars? Those of you who have (and even those who`ve torn down their motors),what oil weight seems to give the best results,wear-wise? I`ve done two,one with RP 20W50 and one with M1 10W40HM (at 3000 mile intervals, give or take a few miles). Both were pretty much tied with wear metals, with iron being at 3ppm,and copper at 1ppm. I`m curious as to those who`ve done uoa`s,if oil weight had anything to do with how well your wear metals read. For instance, did a 50 or 40 weight protect as well as a 30 weight? The earlier model Z32s listed 5W30-20W50 as acceptable grades, whereas my 96 model lists 5W30-10W30 as the only weights as being acceptable. Is this purely CAFE,or will 10W30 be adequate, without sacrificing engine protection? I have some Synpower 10W30 and some M1 15W50 (which I know has long been a favorite here) in my stash right now. Are there any Synpower 10W30 users here?
